During my summers in architecture school, while my colleagues were in architectural offices, I worked for a General Contractor. It was important to understand all the aspects of a building and how it comes together. A good designer will understand how to visually and functionally assemble a building, but a great designer also knows how to build it. I understand the synergy gained by applying the full building spectrum to a project.
After I received my Bachelors of Architecture degree from the University of Southern California, I was awarded a post graduate traveling fellowship to study my proposed design thesis. This opportunity expanded my understanding of cultures, history, and the role successful buildings have in elevating the human experience. It is an experience I continue to draw from today.
I have now worked in both residential and commercial design for over 35 years. Whether I have managed projects worth 100’s of millions of dollars or 100’s of thousands of dollars, one thing is clear - great design is not by accident.
Great design takes many skills. It takes a clear vision of the possibilities. It takes an understanding of the building process. It requires collaboration with the owner, consultants, building authority, and contractors. I holistically understand what it takes to create great buildings.
